In a world of growing e-commerce, it seems to be an interesting question to ask what can physical retail offer anymore. During my internship with Montalba Architects in Santa Monica, California, I had the chance to work on the first flagship store for the American fashion brand BLDWN. The store translates the brand’s essence and ideas, which are mainly formulated in clothes so far into architecture, while creating a place which is allowing people to gather and shop in a more residential setting. The interior design of the existing building on Melrose Avenue in Beverly Hills focuses on creating vignettes that represent and create the brand’s ethos.
