The column as an insulated architectural element is much more than just a constructive part. It shows the desire to make a structural component a pleasure to the eye. By flutes a new shadow is created in each further section of the column, which casts itself on the remaining part. The resulting gradation of shadows makes the massive component appear light and playful. I tried to capture this effect in photos. Knowing that it takes three-dimensionality to make this effect comprehensible. By the way of folding, one would have a floor plan of a Doric column, as soon as the Leporello is placed in a circle. Looking at it from any angle, one can guess what effect the originals will have on site or at least for those who already witnessed it, it will be recalled.
